Downtown Dubai
About Downtown Dubai
As a metropolitan area, Dubai is divided into various districts, each with its own focus. Downtown Dubai stands out not only as a business hub, due to the presence of global corporate offices, but also as a key tourist destination featuring major landmarks like the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
In 1997, the Dubai government allocated a 2,500 square meter plot for the development of residential and retail complexes, overseen by Emaar Properties, the largest developer in the UAE.
The district has a rectangular layout with Sheikh Zayed Road running along its length. Neighboring districts include Al Wasl, Business Bay, Zabeel, and Trade Centre. A trip to Dubai International Airport takes about 15 minutes by public transport, either via Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Khail Road.
Downtown Dubai is considered the city’s core, with a rich infrastructure. The area boasts a plethora of boutiques, beauty salons, restaurants, and entertainment venues for tourists. It also features essential services such as medical centers, kindergartens, schools, banks, and supermarkets, all within walking distance.
The closest beaches, Jumeirah Beach and the free public Open Beach, are accessible within 15-20 minutes by car or 50 minutes by public transport.
